General Course Description:
This course provides a comprehensive overview of the music business and is designed to provide a basic framework for students to begin to understand the complex legal, business and financial issues facing the industry. The focus of the lectures and materials will be an examination of the most significant contracts relating to the creation and exploitation of music. The major deal points from these contracts, and their financial impact, will be identified and explored. The current judicial and legislative landscape will be discussed as it relates to music creators and copyright owners.
