Law 941 - Law of the US - Mexico Border
This course will introduce students to the study and practice of law in the U.S.-Mexico border region across a variety of topics. As the border has generated a wide array of controversies, the casebook covers boundary questions, border detentions, immigrants’ rights, family law, real estate transactions, finance and trade, torts, crimes, environmental law, and Mexican law within the United States. For each chapter of the book, and each case, we will discuss whether the border is a “line” or a “zone” through doctrinal and policy analysis. The border, in other words, does not necessarily cease to be relevant just because the political boundary has been crossed.
