Law 724 - First Amendment Amicus Brief Clinic
Faculty listed in alphabetical order – please see faculty specific description for requisite information.
General Course Description:
The First Amendment Amicus Brief Clinic will file friend-of-the-court briefs on behalf of nonprofits in a wide range of First Amendment cases. Students will work in teams of two or three on each brief, and will likely work on three briefs this way per semester. Because these are real briefs on behalf of real clients, with real responsibility and real deadlines, students will be expected to devote a lot of time to their projects during some weeks, and likely less during other weeks (for an average of about 12 out-of-class hours per week). All briefs will be subject to the instructor’s final editorial control (since, as the Counsel of Record, he will bear responsibility for them). Enrollment will be by application.
Prerequisite: Either having taken First Amendment law, or committing to reading through a First Amendment casebook over the Summer.
