Law 721A/B - Real Estate Law Clinic
Taught in conjunction with Advanced Real Estate Transactions, the Real Estate Law Clinic is a year-long clinical course offering students practical, hands-on training and experience working on live real estate transactions involving the development of affordable housing. Students in the clinic will represent one or two developers at various stages in the process of developing affordable housing for low-income residents of Los Angeles. Through both classroom instruction drawing upon practice-oriented readings, case studies and simulated exercises, as well as clinical work representing non-profit and for-profit clients, students will learn to apply the concepts of Advanced Real Estate Transactions in a real world context and acquire skills required by a modern transactional real estate practice.
Course enrollment is limited to six to ten students by consent of the instructor. A resume and short statement of interest (one to two paragraphs) should be submitted via email to Lance Bocarsly (firstname.lastname@example.org) by no later than July 7, 2014. Concurrent or prior enrollment in Advanced Real Estate Transactions is required. In the fall semester, students will earn 3 units for 1.5 hours per week of course instruction and 6 hours per week of clinical work. In the spring semester, students will earn an additional 3 units for 1 hour per week of course instruction and 8 hours per week of clinical work. The course will be graded on a pass/fail basis.
