Law 748 - Human Rights & International Criminal Law Online Forum
This year-long clinic has elements of a clinic, a seminar, a law journal, and a long-distance externship. We will partner with the Office of the Prosecutor (OTP) of the International Criminal Court (ICC), a web design team, and others to develop legal materials for and manage an innovative, award-winning human rights & international criminal law online forum (www.iccforum.com). Portals to the Forum appear on both the UCLA and OTP websites. Students will be named Associate Editors of the Forum and will work with the OTP this year to: frame up to three critical issues facing the Prosecutor and the Court; identify world-class experts who together offer a range of views and whose analyses will be featured prominently on the Forum; assist in editing the opinions of the Invited Experts; identify and collect relevant legal background materials that will be posted on the website; offer their own legal analysis and opinion in the form of a comment, which will be posted on the Forum; and engage in website housekeeping and marketing activities. Members of the legal community, governments, scholars, activists, and others will typically join the online debate. The course will begin with introduction to the ICC and the general subject area, followed by operation as a team, with each student assigned memoranda and other tasks associated with Forum activities. We will travel to The Hague to meet and coordinate with the OTP. The course satisfies the Substantial Analytic Writing requirement. Application required.
