General Course Description:

The aim of this course is to provide law school students with a strong foundation in securities markets, investments, and valuation. Topics include discounting and present values, the valuation of bonds and stocks, corporate investment evaluation capital budgeting, risk and return, optimal portfolio choice, derivatives markets, real option valuation, and consumer finance. No previous background in finance is necessary. The course will build from first principles. Emphasis in the course will be on cases and interactive exercises. Previous knowledge of Excel is not necessary. Students will get trained in using basic Excel functions as part of the course.
